Chinaman Gulch Dispersed Camping

Historical mining area dispersed camping near Alma with level sites and remnants of Colorado's gold rush era scattered about.

This dispersed area sits in a valley dotted with old mining claims and tailings piles from the 1800s gold rush. Several level sites accommodate larger rigs, with room for 10-15 vehicles spread along the gulch. Fire rings are present at established spots, and the area stays relatively protected from wind compared to nearby high passes.

Accessible via decent dirt road from Highway 9 near Alma — most 2WD vehicles can make it in dry conditions. The site fills up during hunting season and summer weekends. Watch for mine shafts and old equipment; don’t let kids or dogs wander unsupervised.
