Several primitive camping areas scattered along Yankee Hill Road above Westcliffe, offering panoramic views of the Sangre de Cristo peaks. Sites range from roadside pullouts to more secluded spots set back in the pines. Most accommodate medium rigs, with a few larger clearings for bigger setups. Elevation around 9,000 feet means cool nights even in summer and spectacular star-gazing.
Road starts paved but quickly becomes maintained dirt with some rocky sections. Any vehicle can access lower sites, but 4WD recommended for the higher, more remote spots. Snow closes upper sections November through May. Fire restrictions common during dry spells — check current conditions.
