Garner State Park

Classic Texas Hill Country park on the crystal-clear Frio River with swimming holes and towering cypress trees.

Garner sits along one of Texas’s most beautiful stretches of the Frio River, where spring-fed waters stay cool even in August heat. The park offers developed campsites with water and electric hookups, plus restrooms and hot showers. Summer weekends pack out completely with families tube-floating and kids jumping from the low-water crossing. Fire rings and picnic tables at every site, with decent shade from ancient cypress and oak.

Reserve well ahead for summer and fall — this place books solid. Winter’s your best bet for walk-up availability. The camp store sells ice and basics, but bring your own firewood. River access is easy from most campsites, and the old CCC-built stone dance pavilion still hosts weekend dances.
