Turquoise Lake Campground

High-altitude lake camping at 9,900 feet near Leadville with excellent fishing and mountain views.

This Forest Service campground sits right on the shores of Turquoise Lake, offering 183 sites spread across multiple loops with killer views of Mount Massive and Mount Elbert. The lake’s crystal-clear waters are perfect for trout fishing, and the high elevation keeps things cool even in summer. Sites are well-spaced with fire rings and tables, though the higher loops fill up fast on weekends.

Open May through September, weather permitting. The access road is paved but steep in places. Sites accommodate RVs up to 45 feet, though the mountain roads getting here might challenge larger rigs. Vault toilets throughout, potable water available. Reserve ahead for summer weekends — this is a popular base camp for 14er attempts.
