Sand Flats Recreation Area Campgrounds
Sand Flats is a string of small campgrounds and individual sites spread across the slickrock and juniper benches above Moab. It’s a fee area run by Grand County on BLM land. Most sites are first-come, with fire rings or designated fire areas, vault toilets, and not much shade. There’s no potable water at the sites, so fill up in town. You’re right at the Slickrock Trail, Hell’s Revenge, and Fins and Things, and the La Sal Mountains frame the east. It’s busy March through May and again in fall, and sites fill early on weekends.
The road in starts paved from town and turns to graded dirt past the entrance station. Any vehicle can reach the main campgrounds, but trailers should scout their site first, since some loops are tight and sloped. Expect to pay at the entry gate. Check Grand County for current fees, fire rules, and any reservation setup before you go, as those details change.
