Serra Cafema Camp — Kunene River Wilderness Campground
Serra Cafema sits on the northern bank of the Kunene River where Namibia meets Angola, surrounded by towering dunes and volcanic rock in the Hartmann Valley. Run by Wilderness Safaris, this is a full-service lodge with a public-access campsite — shaded pitches under Ana trees, ablution blocks with flush toilets and hot showers, and the sound of the Kunene running past at night. The Himba people live just across the river. It’s remote, beautiful, and completely off the grid. Capacity is limited; overlanders share the area with lodge guests.
Access from Opuwo is a brutal 4WD-only sand and rock track — expect 8-10 hours each way depending on conditions. The Hartmann Valley road floods in the wet season (Nov–Feb). Fuel is not available here — carry enough for the full round trip from Opuwo. Cell signal is nonexistent. Book ahead; the camp does not welcome unannounced arrivals.
Namibia's most remote riverside camp.
