Camping Bâlea Cascadă — Transfăgărășan Valley Station Campground
Tucked into the spruce forest just off DN7C at the Bâlea Cascadă cable car station, this is a real, functioning campground with basic facilities — think flat tent pitches, basic toilets, and a handful of bungalows for when the weather turns savage. It sits around 1,200m elevation, so nights are cool even in summer. The access road is paved to this point, making it the last comfortable night before you commit to the high road. It gets busy in July and August — Romanians know this road and they use it hard.
The campground is run by private operators tied to the Bâlea Cascadă tourist complex. Water is available on-site. From here the road climbs steeply toward the tunnel and the Bâlea Lac plateau — check weather before you push higher. Snow can close the upper road into June and again by October.
Last forest camp before the high Transfăgărășan.
