Los Barriles — East Cape Overland Hub and Resupply Stop
Los Barriles is ground zero for anyone running the East Cape corridor south toward Cabo Pulmo. You’ve got a Pemex on the highway, a full grocery store (Supermarkets Chapitos handles most resupply needs), a handful of taquerías worth stopping for, and cold Pacificos at the palapa bars along the waterfront. Cell signal here is actually decent by Baja Sur standards. It’s a small fishing and kite-surf town that doesn’t take itself too seriously, which suits overlanders just fine.
Stock up on water here — the dirt tracks south to Cabo Pulmo have no reliable resupply. Fuel is critical: fill completely before heading onto the coast road. The town sits right on the Sea of Cortez and marks the northern gateway to the East Cape backcountry. Hit it on a weekday morning to avoid the weekend RV crowd clogging the Pemex.
Last fuel and supplies before the East Cape dirt.
