Nitainlaii Territorial Campground — Dempster Highway Km 541

Established Campground

Nitainlaii sits at roughly Km 541 on the Dempster, operated by the Government of Northwest Territories. It’s a proper territorial campground — pit toilets, fire pits, picnic tables, and enough flat sites to handle a few rigs without stacking up on each other. The surrounding tundra and boreal edge gives it that raw NWT quiet, and on clear nights you’re staring at serious northern sky. It’s the last real government-maintained stop before you push north toward Fort McPherson and the Peel River crossing. Mosquitoes in summer are biblical — bring a head net, not just spray.

Access is straightforward off the Dempster — gravel highway all the way, no 4WD required in dry conditions. Season typically runs late May through early September before the highway shoulders get soft. No hookups, no dump station, no cell. Potable water availability can vary — confirm before depending on it and carry your own as backup.

Last NWT territorial camp before the Peel crossing.
