Lennard River Campground — Windjana Gorge National Park

Lennard River Campground sits right at the entrance of Windjana Gorge National Park, one of the Kimberley’s most dramatic limestone gorge systems. The Napier Range walls rise sharply above camp, and the Lennard River pools are loaded with freshwater crocodiles — you’ll hear them at night. It’s a DPAW-managed site with pit toilets, fire rings, and a cold shower block that overlanders love after days of bulldust. Fills up fast from June onward; book early through the Parks and Wildlife Service WA portal.

Access is via the Windjana Gorge road off the Gibb River Road, about 145 km east of Derby — passable to most 4WD rigs in dry season. Road to camp is unsealed but well-graded. Wet season closure typically runs November through April. No power, no dump station. Generators restricted to daylight hours. Gorge walk is 3.5 km return and non-negotiable — do it at sunset.
