Adcock Gorge — Kimberley Hidden Swimming Hole

Adcock Gorge sits just off the Gibb River Road and is one of those spots that rewards anyone who stops and walks the 10-minute track down to the water. The gorge cuts through layered red sandstone, and the plunge pool at the base is deep, clear, and genuinely cold in the dry season — exactly what you want after hours of corrugated dirt. There’s no real infrastructure here: no toilets, no signage beyond the basic turn-off marker, no shade shelter. Just rock, water, and silence.

Access is via a short unsealed spur off the main Gibb River Road. High-clearance 4WD is strongly recommended as conditions vary by season. The gorge is best visited May through September before the wet season cuts access. Crocodile risk is low here but never zero in the Kimberley — check current conditions and never swim at night or in unfamiliar deep holes without local intel.
