Galvans Gorge — Boab Tree Alley and Roadside Rock Art
Pull off the Gibb about 170km east of Derby and you’ll find one of the most rewarding 10-minute walks in the Kimberley. A short trail drops into a sandstone gorge where Wandjina spirit figures stare down from overhangs — well-preserved and genuinely powerful. Below the art site, a rock pool fed by seasonal seepage sits beneath towering boabs. It’s quiet, it’s real, and it earns its stop every single time.
Accessible in a standard 4WD when the Gibb is open (May–October dry season). The car park is unsigned from a distance — watch for the small track and other rigs pulled up. Respect the art: no touching, no flash photography. The pool level drops as the dry season progresses. This is Ngarinyin Country — treat it accordingly.
