Barranca del Cobre — Copper Canyon Overlook at Divisadero

Point of Interest

Divisadero sits on the canyon rim at roughly 7,600 feet and delivers the most dramatic unobstructed view into the Barranca del Cobre system that you can drive to without descending. Four separate canyons — Urique, Tararecua, Batopilas, and Sinforosa — drain into the gorge below. The scale blindsides you even if you’ve read every trip report. Tarahumara (Rarámuri) vendors line the pullout selling hand-woven baskets and pine needles crafts. It gets crowded when the Chepe tourist train rolls through midday, but early morning you may have the edge to yourself.

Access is paved from Creel via MEX-127 south roughly 25 miles to Divisadero. No significant clearance needed to reach the viewpoint itself. The overlook is not fenced — respect the edge. Season is year-round but summer brings afternoon thunderstorms and potential road flooding. Cell signal is essentially zero here.

Four canyons. One edge. 6,000 feet of nothing.
