Naikoon Provincial Park — Tlell River Estuary Dispersed Camp

The Tlell River estuary is the eastern gateway to Naikoon Provincial Park and the starting point for the Cape Fife wilderness track. Dispersed camping is permitted in the park’s backcountry zones along the beach and forest fringe — flat, exposed sand and driftwood terrain with no facilities. The vibe is raw subarctic coast: cold even in summer, frequent fog rolling in off Hecate Strait, and almost no other humans. Eagles work the estuary daily. Fire restrictions apply — check BC Parks current conditions before you light anything.

Access is off Hwy 16 at Tlell, roughly 40 km north of Skidegate. The trailhead parking area off Richardson Ranch Road is the practical staging point. No toilets, no water, no garbage service. Self-registration at the park kiosk is required. Bring everything in, pack everything out. Cell service effectively doesn’t exist once you leave the highway.
