Jumping Creek Campground — Lewis and Clark National Forest
Jumping Creek sits in a timbered draw in the Little Belt Mountains, managed by the Lewis and Clark National Forest Judith Ranger District. It’s a no-frills spot — vault toilet, fire rings, picnic tables — but the creek access and the ponderosa canopy make it one of the better developed camps in this corner of Montana. Expect light traffic outside of hunting season; late summer and fall it fills with elk hunters. Site count is small, so don’t roll in on a Friday night in September without a backup plan.
Access is via Sheep Creek Road (FR 487) off US-89 south of White Sulphur Springs. Road is gravel and generally passable for any high-clearance rig in dry conditions; after spring runoff it can get soft in the low sections. Snow can close the road well into May. No drinking water on-site — fill in White Sulphur Springs before you head in.
