Morchella Creek Dispersed Camping – Kosciuszko National Park

This is proper high-country camping in Kosciuszko National Park, New South Wales — snow gums, granite outcrops, and the kind of silence that reminds you why you bought a 4WD in the first place. Dispersed sites along the Morchella Creek corridor sit above 1,300 metres and attract serious overlanders and backcountry tourers who want space and elevation without a powered site. No facilities, no neighbours telling you to turn the camp stove down. Expect cold nights even in summer — this is the Snowy Mountains, not the coast.

Access is via unsealed fire trails off the Snowy Mountains Highway corridor — high-clearance is non-negotiable and 4WD is strongly recommended once you get off the main gravel. Creek crossings can be impassable after snowmelt (typically August through October). Check with NPWS Jindabyne before heading in. Campfires are subject to seasonal total fire bans — carry a gas stove as backup. A National Parks pass is required.
