Namadgi National Park — Boboyan Road Southern Flats Dispersed Camp

Dispersed Camping

Boboyan Road cuts through the southern end of Namadgi National Park where the ACT bleeds into the Snowy Mountains foothills, and the valley flats here are as close to genuine high-country dispersed camping as you’ll get this side of Kosciuszko. Kangaroos outnumber people most nights. Expect open grassland, scattered snow gums, and cold clear nights year-round. No facilities whatsoever — carry everything in, carry everything out. Campfires are subject to ACT seasonal restrictions and are prohibited on high fire danger days; a self-contained setup is strongly recommended.

Access via the unsealed Boboyan Road from Tharwa is manageable in a high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions but the road can become soft and greasy after rain. Check Namadgi park conditions with ACT Parks before you leave — closures for fire or flood are not always well-publicised. Nearest fuel and water are back in Tharwa or Canberra. Cell service is effectively zero through most of this corridor.

ACT high country flats, no crowds, no services.
