Brandberg Massif Technical Traverse

Highest peak granite technical challenge

Expert

The Brandberg Massif Technical Traverse approaches Namibia’s highest peak (2,573m) through a maze of granite boulder fields, narrow slot canyons, and ancient riverbeds carved into the mountain’s base. This route passes the famous White Lady rock art site in Tsisab Gorge before tackling the brutal technical ascent through Numas Ravine, where vehicle-sized boulders create natural obstacle courses requiring precise wheel placement and creative line choices.

Expert-level route demanding modified 4WD with serious armor, winch, and recovery gear. Rock damage is inevitable – budget for repairs. Summer temperatures exceed 50°C, making this a winter-only proposition (May-September). No permits but camping fees apply at Brandberg Rest Camp. Water critically scarce – minimum 4 liters per person per day. The payoff: standing beneath 4,000-year-old rock art in one of Africa’s most technically demanding granite playgrounds.
