Badin Lake ORV Trail
Billion-year-old rocks meet modern 4x4s.
The Badin Lake ORV Trail cuts through some of the oldest mountains in North America, where billion-year-old rocks create technical obstacles that’ll test your wheel placement and patience. This 15-mile system winds through the Uwharrie National Forest, past remnants of gold mining operations that date back to the 1800s, with the highlight being the rocky descent to Badin Lake’s shoreline where you’ll cross multiple creek beds and navigate around massive granite boulders.
This is genuine technical terrain requiring high-clearance 4WD with skid plates and recovery gear. Spring brings muddy creek crossings and summer means dealing with thick Carolina humidity, but fall offers the best combination of stable water levels and cooler temps. The trail connects to dispersed camping areas near the lake, and you’ll earn views of the Pee Dee River valley that make the rock crawling worth every scraped undercarriage.
