Windy Point Vista — Mount Lemmon Highway Overlook

Windy Point is the marquee overlook on the Catalina Highway, perched on a granite ledge at roughly 6,600 feet with sheer cliffs dropping away toward Tucson. The rock formations here are gnarly — jumbled orange-and-tan granite boulders stacked like a giant’s game of Jenga. It’s a legitimate geological spectacle, and on clear days you can see well beyond the city to the Santa Cruz Valley. Rock climbers haul gear up here year-round. The pull-off has a couple of parking bays; it fills fast on weekends.

Fully paved access — this is on the main Catalina Highway (FR 38) about halfway up the mountain. No facilities, no water. High winds are common — hence the name. The road stays open year-round but occasional winter closures happen after heavy snowfall above 7,000 feet. Check ADOT closures before your run if it’s December through February.
