Weminuche Wilderness — Spring Creek Pass Trailhead

The Spring Creek Pass Trailhead is the southern jump-off into the Weminuche Wilderness via the CDT, and it’s a legit overlanding anchor point. You’re at the divide, elevation just under 11,000 feet, with access north into the heart of the Weminuche and south along the Rio Grande drainage. The trailhead has a small parking area with room for maybe a dozen rigs, including a couple of trailer setups if people aren’t sprawling. No facilities — this is raw wilderness entry. Day hikes, overnight packs, or just a leg-stretch and a look at where the water splits.

The access road is CO-149, fully paved to the pass. From here the CDT heads north and south — north goes deep into the Weminuche toward Stony Pass and Silverton, a multi-day wilderness route. Self-issue wilderness permits are required for overnight stays inside the wilderness boundary. Trailhead fills on summer weekends; arrive early or midweek for a guaranteed spot. Snow closes the high route well into June most years.
