Wakhan Corridor — Bibi Fatima Hot Springs
Bibi Fatima Hot Springs sit in a narrow side canyon off the main Wakhan valley road, roughly 15km east of Khandud. The springs are considered sacred to local Ismaili women — pilgrims come from across the corridor to visit. The water flows from fractured rock at genuine warmth, and the setting inside the gorge is otherworldly: layered red and ochre cliffs, the sound of the Panj somewhere below. It is one of the very few natural features along the route that draws both local traffic and the occasional intrepid traveler.
Access requires a short walk into the canyon from the road. As an outsider, go respectfully — ask permission at the nearby village before approaching, especially if local women are present. Do not photograph without consent. Road surface to the canyon mouth is rough dirt and rocky; passable in a capable 4WD.
