Vicksburg National Military Park Historic Spring
This natural spring has been flowing since before the 1863 siege and still provides cold, clear water year-round. It’s marked with a small stone monument about 50 yards off the park road, easily missed if you’re not looking for it. The water tastes clean with a slight mineral tang — locals have been drinking from it for generations.
Park along the road shoulder and walk the short path down. The spring is gravity-fed from the hillside aquifer, so flow stays consistent even in dry spells. Bring containers since there’s no spigot setup, just the natural pool. Part of exploring the battlefield’s lesser-known features.
