Turtle Mountains Scenic Byway International Peace Garden

Unique binational park straddling the US-Canada border with formal gardens, hiking trails, and the distinctive Peace Tower.

The International Peace Garden spans 2,339 acres across the North Dakota-Manitoba border, commemorating peaceful relations between the US and Canada. Manicured formal gardens bloom from spring through fall, while native prairie and forest trails offer hiking opportunities in the Turtle Mountains. The 120-foot Peace Tower serves as the park’s centerpiece, visible for miles across the rolling hills. Visitor centers on both sides of the border provide exhibits and information.

Passport required to cross between countries within the park. The US entrance is along Highway 281 north of Dunseith. Camping available at adjacent state parks but not within the Peace Garden itself. Roads are paved and suitable for any vehicle. Peak visitation during summer months when gardens are in full bloom.

Binational peace monument in the Turtle Mountains.
