Tsaile Lake Campground — Navajo Nation

Tsaile Lake Campground is a Navajo Nation-managed site on the shores of Tsaile Lake near Tsaile, Arizona, sitting at the foot of the Chuska Mountains at around 6,900 feet. It’s one of the better-positioned staging camps for overlanders running the east side approach to Canyon de Chelly — Tsaile sits at the canyon’s head, and the Navajo Community College (Diné College) is nearby, making this one of the more accessible spots on the Rez with at least minimal services in town. The lake draws anglers and the ponderosa canopy keeps temps manageable.

Sites are basic — pit toilets, fire rings, no hookups. A Navajo Nation Recreation Pass is required. Road into camp is paved. Cell coverage is thin to nonexistent. This is a quiet, low-traffic camp compared to Cottonwood in Chinle — if you want to avoid the summer rush at the canyon’s main gateway, position here and work the east rim on your own terms.
