Tongue River Dispersed Sites
A string of informal sites along the Tongue River where it cuts through rolling grassland in southeastern Montana. Most spots sit in cottonwood groves with decent shade and room for 3-4 rigs per site. The river runs shallow but clear most of the year — good for cooling off and decent smallmouth bass fishing. Fire rings already established at the main sites. Gets busy during hunting season but otherwise pretty quiet.
Access via gravel county roads that can get muddy after rain. No facilities but the river water is decent for filtering. Best spring through fall when roads are passable. Watch for irrigation diversions that can drop water levels in late summer.
