Tennant Creek Battery Hill Mining Centre
Preserved 1930s gold mine complex featuring restored battery equipment, underground mine tours, and miners’ quarters. The 10-head stamp battery still operates for demonstrations, crushing quartz ore the way it was done during the Territory’s gold rush years. Underground tours run daily, taking you 60 feet down into the actual mine shafts. Good break from the road with proper toilets, shade, and cold drinks.
Located right in Tennant Creek township, easily accessible from the Stuart Highway. Tours run every couple of hours during tourist season but check ahead in the wet months. Entry fee includes the underground tour and stamp battery demonstration. Allow 2-3 hours if you’re into the history, or just stop for facilities and a leg stretch.
Working gold mine museum and underground tours.
