Tekapo Springs Hot Pools
Three outdoor hot pools at different temps (36-40°C) sitting right on Lake Tekapo’s shore, with the Southern Alps as your backdrop. The pools stay open until 21:00, giving you front-row seats to some of the world’s best stargazing — you’re inside the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve. Gets busy with tour buses during peak summer afternoons, but early morning and evening sessions are usually mellow.
Access is straightforward off State Highway 8. The facility includes a day spa, café, and gift shop, but the pools are the main draw. Open year-round, though winter (June-August) brings the most dramatic contrast between hot water and alpine air. Book ahead during holiday periods — they do sell out.
