Sahara — Tassili n’Ajjer Plateau Viewpoint

Tassili n’Ajjer is a UNESCO World Heritage plateau in southeastern Algeria where thousands of years of Saharan history are literally painted on the canyon walls. Towering eroded sandstone pillars, arches, and gorges frame rock art dating back 12,000 years — cattle, hunters, herders, and creatures that no longer roam this desert. The scale is staggering, the silence absolute. This is not a place you pass through — you plan for it.

Access is from Djanet, the nearest town, where you must arrange a guide and park permit — no independent entry permitted. 4WD is mandatory across the sandy piste approaches. Best visited October through March when daytime temps are survivable. Park fees and guide requirements are non-negotiable and enforced. Allow 3–5 days minimum to see anything meaningful.
