Tadrart Acacus — Wadi Teshuinat Sand Corridor Dispersed Camp
Wadi Teshuinat cuts through the heart of the Tadrart Acacus massif — a UNESCO World Heritage landscape packed with Neolithic rock art, wind-sculpted sandstone towers, and dune corridors that’ll make your jaw drop. Overlanders running the Ghat-to-Fezzan piste have camped in this wadi for decades. Flat gravel floor, natural windbreaks from the canyon walls, and absolute silence once the engine goes off. No facilities, no signage, no other souls out here most of the year. Fires are culturally sensitive given proximity to rock art — cook on a stove and leave zero trace.
Access requires a 4WD and Libyan government-authorised guide — this is non-negotiable, both legally and for navigation. Sand entry points vary by season; soft sand sections can stop an unprepared rig cold. Travel window is October through March. Summer temps exceed 50°C. Carry minimum 20 litres of water per person and full fuel for 500+ km range from Ghat.
