Takhini River Bridge — Alaska Highway Canyon Viewpoint
The Takhini River punches through a narrow limestone canyon just east of Haines Junction, and the Alaska Highway bridge crossing gives you a full look at it without leaving the truck. It’s not a grand overlook — it’s a tight, honest river gorge that reminds you the terrain here has teeth. The river runs fast with glacier melt in June and July; by late summer it quiets down considerably. Quick roadside stop, no facilities, but worth the two minutes to get out and look over the rail.
Located on the Alaska Highway between Whitehorse and Haines Junction — crews running the Champagne to Hutshi Lakes circuit or the Dezadeash Lake backcountry road pass right over it. Paved pullout on the south side of the bridge. Cell service is spotty at best. Year-round access on pavement, though the canyon walls collect ice in winter.
