Sukakpak Mountain’s dramatic limestone face dominates the landscape around mile 204 of the Dalton Highway, and several rough pullouts offer dispersed camping with front-row seats to this geological showstopper. The mountain rises nearly 4,500 feet straight up from the valley floor, creating one of Alaska’s most photographed roadside scenes. Sites are just gravel pullouts with room for maybe 6-8 rigs total, no amenities beyond the view.
Access is right off the highway, but the pullouts are rough and can be muddy after rain. Strong winds funnel through the valley regularly, so secure everything. The area sees heavy mosquito pressure in summer, and weather can change fast in the Brooks Range. Popular with photographers during the brief wildflower season in July.
