Strezlecki Track – Montecollina Bore Camp
Montecollina Bore sits roughly midway along the Strzelecki Track in South Australia’s Channel Country. It’s a free, open dispersed camp on the edge of the bore drain — flat, exposed, and brutally honest about what the outback actually is. No shade, no facilities, just red dirt, stars so thick they look fake, and the occasional road train rumbling past. Fires are generally permitted outside total fire ban periods; always check SACFS before you light anything out here.
Access is via the Strzelecki Track itself — a well-known outback dirt road running north from Lyndhurst toward Innamincka. High-clearance 4WD is strongly recommended, especially after rain when sections bog badly. Carry your own water; the bore water is not potable. Fuel up at Lyndhurst or Innamincka — there’s nothing between them.
Outback bore camp, zero frills, all stars.
