Stampede Reservoir Dispersed Camping

Dispersed Camping

This BLM-managed dispersed area sits along the north shore of Stampede Reservoir, about 15 miles northeast of Truckee. Scattered sites accommodate everything from tent campers to big rigs, with most spots offering direct lake access and Sierra Nevada views. The area gets busy on summer weekends but typically has space midweek. Fire restrictions apply during red flag conditions.

Access via paved Stampede Dam Road, then dirt spurs to individual sites. Most spots are suitable for any vehicle, though a few lakefront sites require high-clearance. No amenities — pack out trash and bring water. Best spring through fall; winter access can be sketchy with snow.
