Split Rock Creek State Park
This state park protects a dramatic quartzite gorge and small lake formed by Split Rock Creek. The campground has 28 sites ranging from basic tent spots to full hookups, most with picnic tables and fire rings. The quartzite cliffs provide a unique geological setting rare in Minnesota, with several miles of hiking trails exploring the gorge and surrounding prairie.
Located in the far southwestern corner of the state near Pipestone. The park can fill on summer weekends but typically has availability weekdays. Reservations recommended for hookup sites. The creek provides decent water levels for most of the season, and the quartzite formations make for interesting photography and geology study.
