This raw camping area sits beside Sigöldugljúfur canyon on the F208 route to Landmannalaugar, where the Tungnaá river has carved deep gorges through columnar basalt. Space for 6-8 vehicles on relatively level ground with stunning views into the canyon depths. No facilities whatsoever — pack out everything and bring your own water. Wind can be fierce, so secure camp well.
Access requires high-clearance 4WD via the F208, typically open June through September depending on river levels. The river crossings before this point can be challenging after rain. Popular with photographers chasing the midnight sun during summer solstice.
