Serengeti Seronera Campground
Seronera sits dead center in the Serengeti ecosystem, surrounded by the kopjes and acacia woodlands where leopards hunt and lions raise their cubs. This is raw African camping — basic sites with no facilities beyond pit toilets and a water tap. You’ll share the area with other self-drive overlanders from around the continent, plus the occasional research team. Bring everything: camp chairs, cooking gear, headlamps, and plenty of water. The sounds at night are pure Serengeti — hyena whoops, lion roars, and the constant rustle of nocturnal grazers.
Access requires a high-clearance 4WD for the final approach, especially during wet season (November-May). Park entry fees are steep but unavoidable. No reservations — first-come camping with space usually available except during peak migration months (June-September). Rangers patrol regularly but you’re responsible for your own safety around wildlife. The airstrip nearby brings supply flights, but this is expedition-level camping in one of Africa’s most pristine ecosystems.
Raw camping in the heart of Serengeti migration country.
