Searchlight Historic Mining District
Searchlight peaked during the early 1900s gold rush, producing over $7 million in ore before the boom went bust. Today, scattered mining headframes, stone foundations, and rusted equipment dot the hills around this small Nevada town. The old Quartette Mine and nearby Duplex Mine offer the most substantial ruins, with interpretive signs explaining the area’s mining heritage.
Located on US-95 about 60 miles south of Las Vegas. Most mining sites are accessible via short walks from paved or gravel roads. The town itself has a small museum, gas station, and basic services. Best explored during cooler months when walking among the ruins is comfortable. Watch for mine shafts and unstable structures — admire from a respectful distance.
