Savage River State Forest Big Run Road Dispersed Sites
A string of informal camping spots follows Big Run creek through dense hardwood forest in Maryland’s mountainous western panhandle. Sites are small clearings just off the gravel forest road, most accommodating 2-3 vehicles maximum. The creek provides a constant soundtrack and reliable water source, though treatment is recommended. Popular during hunting seasons and spring trout runs.
Big Run Road is well-maintained gravel accessible to any vehicle, though some individual sites require a short drive through grass. No facilities, but the creek access is excellent for water and washing. Can get busy during peak hunting seasons in fall. Winter camping allowed but road may be gated during heavy snow.
