A well-maintained municipal campground on the shores of Lake Mývatn with space for about 150 tents and RVs. Hot showers, heated restroom facilities, communal kitchen with cooking facilities, and a small camp store. The location puts you within walking distance of Dimmuborgir’s bizarre lava formations and a short drive to Námafjall’s geothermal area. Gets busy in summer with European camping crews.
Open May through September, with the kitchen and shower buildings heated throughout the season. Reception hours are limited – arrive before 8pm or risk being turned away. The midges around Mývatn can be brutal in July and August, so bring a head net.
Mývatn's main camp with hot showers and lake access.
