Rapidan River Natural Swimming Hole

The Rapidan flows over granite ledges creating deep, clear pools perfect for swimming and water collection. Located just downstream from the old Rapidan Dam, this spot sees heavy local use on weekends but remains relatively quiet during weekdays. The water runs cold even in summer, fed by mountain springs and shaded by dense hardwood forest.

Access requires a short walk down from the parking area off Route 522. The trail can be slippery when wet, and water levels fluctuate with rainfall. Popular with fly fishermen early morning and evening, so time your visit accordingly if you want the pools to yourself.
