Rainbow Bridge National Monument
This massive sandstone arch rises 290 feet above Bridge Creek, creating the world’s largest known natural bridge. The rust-colored Navajo sandstone formation spans 275 feet and stands as tall as the U.S. Capitol dome. Sacred to Navajo, Hopi, and other tribes, the bridge sits in a pristine canyon setting accessible only by boat across Lake Powell or a challenging 14-mile overland hike.
Most visitors arrive by boat from Wahweap or Bullfrog marinas, then hike the final 1.2 miles through the canyon. The overland route from Navajo Mountain requires permits and crosses rough terrain. Water levels in Lake Powell affect boat access — check current conditions before planning. Early morning or late afternoon light creates the best photography conditions on the bridge’s curved span.
