Quebrada del Cóndor Petroglyphs
Hidden in a narrow canyon 20km southeast of Antofagasta de la Sierra, this archaeological site preserves some of the finest pre-Columbian petroglyphs in the Puna. The main panel features condors, llamas, and human figures carved into dark volcanic rock, with the condor images showing remarkable detail and artistry. The site sits at 3,800 meters with views down the quebrada toward the salt flats.
Access requires high-clearance 4WD for the final 8km of rocky track. No facilities or interpretation — this is raw archaeology in its natural setting. Respect the art by observing only, and bring layers as the high altitude means sudden weather changes even in summer.
