This sprawling area of weathered lava fields and scattered cardón cacti offers some of the most remote camping in Baja’s central desert. The volcanic rock provides natural windbreaks and level spots to set up camp, while the lack of any light pollution creates phenomenal stargazing. Expect complete silence except for the occasional coyote chorus.
Access is via rough sandy tracks that branch off the main road — high clearance essential, 4WD recommended in soft conditions. No amenities whatsoever, so come fully self-sufficient. The area can be brutally hot in summer but perfect in winter months. Navigation can be tricky in the maze of tracks, so GPS and backup navigation are critical.
Ancient lava flows meet endless stars.
