Prineville — Ochoco Mountains Chevron and Resupply
Prineville sits at the western edge of the Ochoco high country and is the logical staging town for anyone running the Walton Lake area, Ochoco Reservoir circuits, or the Buckhorn Drive toward John Day Fossil Beds. The Chevron station on the main drag handles diesel and regular, there’s a Fred Meyer nearby for a real grocery run, and the town has a hardware store if you need anything bolted or patched before heading into the hills. It’s a working ranching town — no resort-town markup, no attitude.
From Prineville, US-26 east gets you into the Ochocos fast, and Ochoco Creek Road peels off into the national forest. Cell signal exists in town but evaporates quickly once you climb into the timber. Fill everything here — fuel, water, food — before heading out.
Last fill-up before the Ochoco backcountry.
