Ouray Mountain Sports — Main Street San Juan Camp Gear, Maps and Backcountry Supplies

Off-Road / Outfitter

Ouray Mountain Sports sits on Main Street in the Switzerland of America, at the foot of Red Mountain, Imogene and Engineer passes and Black Bear. It’s an independent outdoor shop. It’s mostly climbing, hiking and camping gear, so don’t expect winches or lockers. What you can get is the stuff a San Juan trip actually runs out of: maps, camp supplies, outdoor clothing and local beta. One Yelp reviewer said the owner spent time going over area maps, including 4×4 routes, before sending them on their way.

It’s a good stop when you’ve been on the trail a few days and need a replacement stove part, a layer for the 12,000-foot passes, or a paper map when your phone dies. The shop’s site lists daily hours from 9 am to 6 pm, but verify ahead, especially in shoulder season when mountain towns thin out. For parts, recovery gear and welding you’ll need to look elsewhere in the area. This is for supplies and local knowledge.
