Nuuk Fjord Backcountry Water Source
A fast-moving glacial stream cuts across the Nuuk Fjord ice road approximately 15 kilometers from the fjord’s head. The water runs clear and cold year-round, fed by snowmelt and small glaciers upstream. Flow varies seasonally but never runs dry — strongest during summer thaw, manageable trickle through winter months.
The crossing point has natural gravel bars on both sides making vehicle access straightforward. Standard water treatment recommended despite the pristine appearance. Stream can rise quickly during warm spells, making the ford temporarily impassable for low-clearance vehicles.
