Möwe Bay Campsite — Skeleton Coast National Park
Möwe Bay sits roughly 70km south of the Kunene River mouth inside the restricted northern Skeleton Coast National Park. NWR operates a small, basic campsite here with a few designated pitches, a basic ablution block, and absolutely nothing between you and the cold Benguela-current surf. Seal colonies, desert-adapted lion tracks, and the rusted bones of shipwrecks are all within striking distance. Capacity is tiny — four to six vehicles maximum — and permits are hard to get. Book through NWR Windhoek well in advance; walk-ins don’t happen here.
Access is via the graded park track running south from the Kunene River or north from Ugabmund Gate — high-clearance 4WD is non-negotiable, sand driving skills are essential, and you must carry all fuel, food, and water. The park gate at Ugabmund is the southern entry point roughly 4–5 hours north of Swakopmund. Cell signal is zero. This is the real Skeleton Coast experience — plan accordingly.
