Moshannon State Forest Sand Run Road Dispersed Area
This dispersed area offers scattered primitive camping spots along Sand Run Road’s dirt track, tucked into dense hemlock and hardwood forest. Sites are unmarked pull-offs that can accommodate 1-3 vehicles, with natural fire rings at some locations. The area sees moderate use from hunters in fall and occasional ATV riders accessing nearby trails. Fire restrictions typically apply during dry periods May through October.
Access requires high-clearance 2WD at minimum due to rocky sections and seasonal washouts. Road becomes increasingly rough after the first mile, transitioning from maintained gravel to rough dirt with embedded rocks. No services or facilities – pack out all trash and bring your own water.
