Mesquite Spring Campground — Death Valley National Park
Mesquite Spring sits on the alluvial fan beneath the Grapevine Mountains, near the north end of the park. Compared to Furnace Creek or Stovepipe Wells it’s quiet. You get big sky, creosote flats, and a real chance at a clear night with nobody’s generator running. The loop is small, around 40 sites, and it’s first-come, first-served. Winter and spring fill it, so show up early. Summer heat here is no joke, and most folks skip it from June through September.
It’s a good staging camp for the northern end of the park: Ubehebe Crater, Racetrack Valley, and Scotty’s Castle country. The campground itself is on pavement, so any rig gets in. The rough stuff starts once you point north on the dirt. Road and facility status in this part of the park has shifted over the years because of flood damage and repairs, so check the NPS site before you commit fuel and water to the drive. Fees, water and dump station availability can change. Verify ahead. Have a dirty day.
Quiet north-end Death Valley desert camp.
